Tooth alignment issues are one of the most frequent problems that our patients want to discuss with our staff. However, many patients think of teeth alignment as only a cosmetic issue, something too expensive, or too painful to fix. Fortunately, there is another option for patients to achieve the flawless, healthy smile that they have always wanted. Invisalign is a straightening system that is specifically tailored to your teeth and can be worn without anybody even realizing you are wearing them.
Invisalign utilizes a series of different aligners to gradually and gently push the teeth into their proper alignment. Each aligner is specifically tailored and created for you, so you know that you will get the results you want with a comfortable fit every time.
Once you have decided that Invisalign is right for you, our staff will take an impression of your teeth. This is no longer the messy goo that forces every patient to gag. Instead, a quick and painless 3-D digital scan is taken of your teeth. In just a matter of minutes, we can upload your current smile and show you how that will change with your aligners to get the smile you have wanted!
Once the scan and treatment plan has been created (and you have approved!) the scan will be sent to a lab. The lab will create your Invisalign system. The number of actual aligners that you need will depend on your individual case, but most patients will finish their treatment in under a year. Once the aligners have been created, they will be sent to you!
You then start wearing your clear aligners for 20-22 hours a day. We recommend that you take them out only to eat and brush your teeth. They should be worn throughout the day, and while you sleep for the most benefit. After about a week or two, your teeth will have shifted enough that it will be time to start using your next set, or tray.
During the time that you are using the Invisalign system, you will be scheduled for regular appointments with Dr. John K. See. We can properly evaluate your treatment and make sure to address any issues that you are having.
Invisalign are made of a clear, specifically patented thermoplastic material. They are also molded to fit your current smile. This means that when you are wearing them that they are almost undetectable, which we have found is a major consideration for many people weighing options between braces and Invisalign.
Also, Invisalign does not require significant life changes that are often associated with braces. You take your aligners out when you eat, so there is no need to change your diet. This means you can still bite into an apple, enjoy corn on the cob, or grab a box of popcorn at the movie theater.
Cleaning your aligners is simple. When you brush your teeth, you can also use your toothbrush to go over the aligners too. You can give them a quick rinse to remove any toothpaste residue or buildup, and put them back in. However, you should avoid using chemical cleaners on your aligners because they can damage or stain them, and increase their visibility to others.
While Invisalign is a durable system, you should not leave them out in the direct sun. Place them directly into your pocket, or play sports while they are in place.
Invisalign offers patients a great option to get the perfect smile they have always wanted without all of the drawbacks of other approaches. If you think that Invisalign is the right system for you, call Dr. John K. See, DDS today to schedule your consultation!
